My Holiday Tablescape

One of the things I was looking forward to in my first home was creating my first of many holiday tablescapes. As a fan of curating opportunities for togetherness and all things entertaining I relished in picking every element. It was of great importance that my table evoked a sense of familiarity while adding a newer, more modern approach to a seemingly vintage concept. All in all, I am pleased with the outcome and am thrilled to share with you my tips for creating a holiday tablescape of your own.

  1. Pick Your Palette- Choosing one main color of focus ensures that your tablescape has a “color palette compass” of sorts, allowing you to inject your main color in various ways without going too far off the grid. Lately I have been gravitating towards all things green. Maybe because emerald is my son’s birthstone or that green is one of the official colors of the holiday season. Either way, once I’d picked my palette everything else fell into place.

  2. Decide on a Theme- Whether you want a modern masterpiece or a vintage Christmas village, the theme of the table sets the mood for your guests. Frankly I couldn’t decide between vintage or modern so I found ways of combining the two. Victorian plates shared space with modern flatware while green champagne flutes coupled themselves next to golden rimmed coupe glasses.

  3. Formal or Informal- Remember when part of your elementary school curriculum was to learn the various ways of properly setting a table? (I know, I’m officially dating myself as a millennial and possibly the final generation to know this art form/skill set) Well, should you decide to host a formal soirée, one will need the necessary setting and layout for each course. If informal, less flatware is needed.

  4. Have Fun!- The best thing about creating a tablescape is the anticipation of making memories with those who surround it. Perfection should ever be at the forefront, but loving intention and self expression. This year, my table will only have one guest and a high chair, and I couldn’t be happier.

Now go out there…or in there and make a tablescape to remember!
