Tulle Talk

I need to make a confession. I don’t know when it happened, maybe when I wore it for my wedding or the first time I saw the drama of the fabric when lavishly layered on top of itself, but I have been buying all things tulle lately and I can’t stop! Did you know that the history of tulle dates all the way back to the 1700s and was hand-woven? Fast forward to the present-day and weaving machines do all the work. Yes, tulle has shifted with the times and with fashion. Gone are the days when tulle was only appropriate for ballerinas and wedding dresses. Tulle has become an any day, any way fabric and I for one am here for it.

Although beautiful, tulle can be tricky. Too much and one can read juvenile. Too little and a well-intended look can look…well…lost. Never fear my dear! I have one tried and true trick I always used when assembling my tulle ensembles.

The Tulle is the Statement piece.

Yes, you read that right. That wedding dress is indeed heavenly but what makes it ethereal is the tulle. That ballerina did dance that Fauré number to filth, but it was the tulle that enhanced her twirls. Let the tulle steal the show. Personally, I love to pair tulle skirts with a simple button-down or solid T-shirt for a more leisurely look. For a dressier occasion, I keep the accessories simple but significant and wear a heel with a height that compliments the length of my look. Remember as long as the tulle is the statement piece you’re good to go! Now go forth and create your own tulletastic look. I’m going to see If Lawrence will gift me more space on his side of the closet for my ever-growing tulle collection.
